The Shelter Project is an annual fundraiser where all kinds of artists share their talent and raise money for the Tanner Steffler Foundation on social media throughout the month of May.
In previous years we’ve focused on the musical side of things, but this year we’re including photography, visual art, and music.
Not only that, we're also expanding what we want to hear from musicians. Whether they perform Beneath, any previous year's shelter project song, or perform an original they’ve written that relates to the theme, we want to hear it.
This year's theme is “Beneath the Mask”. One of the many major impacts covid has taken on us is our mental health. From the lack of human interaction to not knowing what comes next, these masks we wear now cover more than just our faces.
What is the Tanner Steffler Foundation?
On June 6th, 2017 after a battle with substance use disorder, Tanner Steffler was sadly poisoned by a drug overdose at the young age of 19.
Since then, Tanner’s parent's John and Heather started the foundation and have aimed it at enhancing mental health and addiction resources, as well as support networks for youth between the ages of 12-24.
This year, participants have a chance to win a $100 gift card to Long and McQuade's musical instruments, a $100 gift card to Michael’s art supply, a $100 gift card to Carman’s foto source, an Acoustic Guitar, a Line 6 Spider III amp and more.
The winners will be based on creativity, total donations raised, and overall performance.
